GoJute’s latest Sales Assistant, Grace Digweed, gives us the low-down on her first three months at GoJute as she goes from trends to totes.

Before working with totes, I worked in Sales for a fashion brand. Besides the obvious differences in the two businesses, I carried some skills across to my new role as a Sales Assistant at GoJute. The main skill being, my customer service skills. Listening to a customer’s needs was an integral part to my previous role and being able to tailor your advice to meet the customer’s needs was important. Similarly, GoJute values customer service, with the customer sitting at the heart of the company.

In addition, being a recent advertising graduate, I am used to working with different audiences. At GoJute each bag has a different audience and I have been able to advise different customers daily, on which bag would suit their aim and business. During my degree, I would sell the benefit of a product through ideas, design and copy. Therefore, I have also had to adapt these skills to my new sales role, by learning to sell verbally.

With a new job role, comes a lot of learning which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Before working at GoJute, the word ‘Jute’ was alien to me. Instead I would refer to the branded bags as ‘bags for life’ or hessian bags. However, three months into my new role, the word Jute is now a part of my daily vocabulary and I have learnt about the many possibilities that the plant can offer! With Jute bags being a completely new business to me, I have loved learning about the plant fibre and especially about the process of how our bags are made by hand in India.

Alongside the ample amounts of snacks in the office, working at GoJute has its perks. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first three months and I am looking forward to learning more!
